Hallandale Beach at a Glance

Hallandale Beach is a city in the south of Broward County, home to some 40k+ people and a primary draw to hundreds of thousands of tourists and visitors annually.

Fixed between Hollywood to the north and Adventura (in Miami-Dade) to the south, Hallandale Beach has lots going for it:

  • Atlantic beaches

  • Gulfstream Park, premier racetrack for thoroughbred horses with capacity for 9,500 guests

  • Mardis Gras Gaming (formerly for dog racing, which was outlawed in 2021), casino and gaming venue

  • High-end outdoor shopping and dining

  • A burgeoning nightlife scene

  • Ample opportunities for outdoor recreation, from boating to beach volleyball to nearby hiking to swamp buggy rides

  • Proximity to high-traffic airports and popular universities

  • Easy access to I-95, the primary north-south interstate highway on the East Coast of the United States

Beyond being a beachfront beauty, Hallandale Beach is known for its cultural richness, with many Hispanic, African American, and Caribbean residents calling the city home. This is reflected in the vibrant and growing culinary scene and diverse cultural events.

The city is also characterized by a mix of residential areas - including luxury condos and high-rises catering to upscale residents, visitors, and snowbirds. (Many high-profile movie stars, fashion icons, rappers, and singers make appearances at the annual Pegasus World Cup horse racing.)

Common Crimes and Arrests in Hallandale Beach

While Hallandale Beach is generally considered less prone to criminal activity than some of its more heavily-populated sister cities, it’s not without its fair share of incidents.

According to FBI UCR reports , property crimes are the most commonly reported in the city. These included more than 1,000 thefts. As for the nearly 200 annual incidents of violent crime, most were aggravated assault, as well as some 60 robberies and a dozen rapes.

Clients in Hallandale Beach often contact us for legal representation in matters of:

  • Property crimes . These include theft, burglary, and vandalism - all relatively common due to the mix of residential and commercial properties.

  • Drug offenses . While marijuana-related arrests for possession are practically a non-issue at this point (violators face a small fine instead of a criminal charge), drug traffickers of all illegal substances are still a target of local police and sheriff’s offices. The city’s proximity to I-95 makes it more susceptible to drug-related crimes than other communities in South Florida.

  • DUI. There are roughly 2,000 DUI arrests in Broward County each year, and about 30 percent of all traffic deaths are characterized as alcohol-related. But according to county data, the conviction rate is somewhere around 56 percent. That means fighting the charge is often a smart move. Doing so with an experienced defense lawyer as your advocate only improves your prospects.

  • Firearm offenses . They don’t call Florida the “Gunshine State” for nothing. More than 2.7 million concealed carry licenses, as of September 2023, according to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services . However, as of July 1, 2023, anyone 21+ can carry a concealed firearm without a permit. That said, there is a lengthy list of exceptions, including concealed carry in a police station, detention facility, courthouse, elections polling area, government meeting, schools, career centers, airports, any place that serves alcohol for consumption, and any “place of nuisance,” as identified in F.S. 823.05 . Also, it’s still illegal for convicted felons to carry. Additionally, any alleged crime committed while wielding a gun can significantly enhance the seriousness of the charge. It’s critically important if you’re facing gun charges in Hallandale Beach to reach out to a skilled criminal defense attorney.

  • Domestic violence . It’s true that domestic violence is a serious problem - and not one isolated to Hallandale Beach. However, a false or exaggerated accusation can also be devastating for the career, family relationships, and freedoms of the accused. A strong, no-nonsense approach to legal defense is imperative to protecting your reputation and best interests.

  • White collar crimes. From fraud to embezzlement to identify theft, Hallandale Beach has its share of white collar crimes.
